    No Barca plans for Fabregas

    15 Jun 2009 - 08:21:09

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has once again denied suggestions that he is interested in returning to Barcelona.

The 22-year-old left the Nou Camp in 2003 after coming through the youth team ranks at the Catalan giants but has no intention to returning to the Champions League winners, even though he is a big fan of Pep Guardiola.

Fabregas insists he has not been approached by Barcelona, telling Sport when asked if he wanted to work under Guardiola: "If that happened it would be unusual. But nothing has happened.

"Pep has always been my idol. I have always played in his position and wear the number four like him. He was my hero when I was young and the one I have tried to be like.

"I tried to imitate what he did as a player and now as a coach he is showing how good he is. He is someone that will always be important in my life.

"I want to win trophies. When a player ends his career he wants to be able to look back and feel that he was an important player and to have some medals.

"That is what everyone aims for. I want to win and I am happy at Arsenal, but we have four years without any success and for a player that wants to win things that is a long time.

"It is clear that it would be special, but I am also clear that Arsenal made me captain for half a season and that has brought added responsibility and ties me to the club even more.

"Now I would really like to lift a trophy as captain of the Gunners."
