New Gunners deal for Clichy
20 Jun 2008 - 17:07:46
Arsenal defender Gael Clichy has handed Gunners boss Arsene Wenger a timely boost by penning a new long-term contract with the club.
Mathieu Flamini and Jens Lehmann have already left the Emirates Stadium since the end of last season, while Emmanuel Adebayor and Alex Hleb have also been linked with a move away from north London.
Clichy joined Arsenal almost five years ago from Cannes and has already made 146 first-team appearances for the club.
The 22-year-old Frenchman played more games than any other Gunners player last year, featuring in 49 of the club's 58 matches in all competitions.
The left-back's consistency resulted in him being named in the PFA's Team of the Year.
