Neville - Lescott talk not a distraction

Everton skipper Phil Neville dismissed claims that the ongoing transfer saga involving Joleon Lescott had unsettled the club ahead of their opening day thumping at the hands of Arsenal. Lescott was included in the Toffees' side despite handing in an official transfer request following persistent interest from Manchester City. But after seeing his side slide to a humiliating 6-1 defeat at Goodison Park, Neville said: "Forget that rubbish, that's a side-show. "It's simple really, when a cross comes in you have to mark your man. If someone's running forward, you have to stay with them. We didn't do that and we got punished."
