Scottish giants Celtic are interested in signing former England international Sol Campbell.

Out of contract: but Sol looks set to stay at Arsenal

Hoops interim boss Neil Lennon is hoping to lure the 35-year-old to Parkhead on the promise of regular first-team football and making him the highest paid player at the club.

But the Ulsterman faces stiff competition from Arsenal, who look set to offer Campbell a new one-year deal after impressing since he re-signed for the club in January.

Celtic's interest in Campbell, caps a remarkable turnaround for the defender after he started last season with League Two outfit Notts County.

However, the former Tottenham captain lasted just one game at Meadow Lane and began his second spell with the Gunners shortly after the turn of the year.

And Campbell turned in a number of impressive performances with some calling for him to be included in Fabio Capello's World Cup squad.
