Mertesacker staying at Bremen

Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker has confirmed he will be staying at the club after a summer of speculation linking him with Arsenal.[LNB] The 25-year-old centre-half has been linked with a switch to a number of clubs, with the Gunners rumoured to be interested in his signature.[LNB]But the Germany international, who was part of Joachim Low's side that finished third in the World Cup, has now revealed he will remain at the Weserstadion.[LNB]"I'm staying at Bremen," Mertesacker told German daily Bild.[LNB]"There have been so many rumours concerning me, but I've never had to be concerned because none were concrete."[LNB]Mertesacker moved to Bremen from Hannover 96 after an impressive showing in the 2006 World Cup.[LNB]He is under contract with Werder until 2012, and will now be focused on improving Bremen's third-place finish in the Bundesliga last season.
