McCarthy backs Wenger comments

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has joined Arsene Wenger in criticising the new Premier League squad restrictions.[LNB] The Arsenal manager branded the rules, which limit each club's available squad to 25 players of which eight must be home grown, as "ridiculous" and "a disaster".[LNB]The regulations are intended to boost the number of young English players in the league but, with home-grown players classed as anyone who has been in England from the age of 18, McCarthy is not convinced that will happen.[LNB]He told the Birmingham Mail: "I think sometimes rules are forced upon us. I don't think it's helping the England team because the eight home-grown players just have to have been here (from 18). They could have come from Spain or anywhere else.[LNB]"It is restrictive and some teams can afford to carry bigger squads who could accommodate an extra player.[LNB]"I've seen Arsene Wenger's comments and he was right. Other countries can sign players from anywhere but English clubs don't have that luxury."[LNB]
