Striving for more: Arsenal striker Robin van Persie[LNB]Robin van Persie has welcomed new signing Marouane Chamakh to Arsenal and believes he could be the missing link at the Emirates.[LNB]The Gunners are expected to confirm the striker's arrival on a freetransfer before the World Cup starts on June 10 after the 26-year-oldrejected a new deal with Bordeaux.[LNB]Arsenal challenged in the Barclays Premier League for large parts of the season before tailing off, finishing 11 points behind champions Chelsea in third.[LNB]But van Persie reckons Chamakh can help Arsene Wenger's side push on next season by creating competition for places.[LNB]And the Dutchman said: 'I don't know Chamakh personally but I know him from TV. He looks a good player.[LNB]'He is strong in the air and scores lots of goals with his head. He looks confident on the ball so hopefully the transfer goes through. It is good for all of us to have competition and that's why I am happy to see him coming.[LNB]'When you look at our year, we had good and bad periods but we have been unlucky as well.[LNB]'Maybe we need a bit more depth in the squad. If you are unlucky with players who play in a central role, it is a killer blow for the team.[LNB] Au revoir: Marouane Chamakh applauds Bordeaux fans after his last game for the club in the French League against Sochaux at the Chaban-Delmas Stadium[LNB]'I have been injured, Cesc and Almunia have been in and out and Gallas as well. That is the spine of the team. Maybe we can do something there.'[LNB]Tottenham managed to finish fourth this season but van Persie stoked up the rivalry with Arsenal's north London rivals by claiming he did not believe they were capable of achieving it every season.[LNB]He added: 'This is the first time in years they have achieved a top four place which is good for them but its not enough for me to say they will be challenging year after year.'[LNB] Arsenal 4 Fulham 0: Fans make feelings known but Arsene Wenger looks on the bright side Crocked Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas set to be fit for Spain's World Cup bidARSENAL FC
