Manchester Utd 0 Arsenal 0: The longest 90 minutes in history

It was hardly the heroic homecoming that their exhilarating season demanded. The triumphal procession of football that might do justice tothis team will have to wait for Rome next week, but at least that is avenue with more resonance than their last game at Hull City. Manchester United secured an 18th title - their third in as many years - at Old Trafford yesterday to match Liverpool's record and Sir Alex Ferguson lifted the Premier League trophy for the 11th time, an achievement unlikely ever to be equalled. It would be fair to say that his mission statement on arrival here, to 'knock Liverpool off their perch', has been achieved in most emphatic fashion.
