Lukasz Fabianski backs Arsenal to maintain title push despite Chelsea defeat

Goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has backed Arsenal to recover their recent slump and push Chelsea all the way in the Premier League title race. [LNB]The Polish stopper was helpless to prevent goals from Didier Drogba and Alex on Sunday as the Blues put the Gunners to the sword for the fifth successive time, and so move five points clear at the top of the table and seven ahead of Arsenal.[LNB]Arsenal dominated large parts of the game at Stamford Bridge but were all too often devoid of ideas when they reached the final third. Fabianski's opposite number Petr Cech really only had one save to make, from Andrey Arshavin in the first half. [LNB] We'll be just Fab: Lukasz Fabianski is confident Arsenal can maintain a title push despite defeat at Chelsea[LNB]Nevertheless, Arsenal's current incumbent of the No 1 spot saw positives in the 2-0 defeat. [LNB]'I think it is disappointing for us because looking at the game and the situations we created, I think we deserved at least one or two goals,' Fabianski said. 'It was a tough game, a bad result for us, but we have to look forward to the next few games.[LNB]'For sure we will be chasing that title and I'm sure we won't give up. I hope we can come back stronger in the next games.'[LNB]Not close enough: Marouane Chamakh wasted a number of headed chances at Stamford Bridge[LNB]Arsenal could have led as early as the first minute when summer signings Marouane Chamakh and Laurent Koscielny headed wide and high respectively.[LNB]'I think we were really close to scoring early on,' Fabianski continued. 'To be honest Cech made one great, great save from Andrey, but the rest of the shots went on the wrong side of the post. We created plenty of chances but couldn't do it.[LNB]'We have to take the chances that we create. Today we didn't and were punished for that.'[LNB]It was a damming indictment from a goalkeeper who has had to take his fair share of criticism since arriving in north London in 2007. However after a solid performance last midweek in Europe, and another at Stamford Bridge, it appears a corner may have been turned. [LNB]'I was unlucky on Drogba's goal,' he said. 'It hit the post and only just went in. It was a difficult situation because two centimeters more and I probably would have saved it.[LNB]'[Alex's free-kick] was a powerful strike. You never see a player who is going to strike it straight with his right foot that goes all the way away from you. It was strange. It was difficult. I think my position was good but it was really, really powerful. [LNB]'I think I can be pleased with my performance. I saved well, claimed crosses, and with my feet I played confidently. It is going in the right direction for me. I cannot be happy, though, with the result.'[LNB] Wenger: We only have ourselves to blame after losing to Chelsea (again)Chelsea 2 Arsenal 0: Beware the Drog - Gunners are bitten by Didier againArsenal hero Robert Pires joins up with Gunners as Arsene Wenger admits winger has still got itARSENAL FC
