Liege v Arsenal preview

Arsenal will be hoping to bounce back from a difficult weekend in their opening UEFA Champions League Group H game. The Gunners suffered their second defeat in as many games on Saturday as they lost 4-2 to Manchester City in the Premier League, although the headlines were made by Emmanuel Adebayor's off-the-ball behaviour. After the farce of Arsene Wenger's sending-off against Manchester United and the diving debate surrounding Eduardo, Arsenal will be determined to do their talking on the pitch against Belgian champions Standard Liege on Wednesday, in a match that can be seen live on Sky Sports 2 and HD2. Arsenal have played a typically exciting brand of attacking football during the early part of the season and scoring goals has not been a problem, with 13 in the league on top of the five they netted against Celtic in the Champions League play-off round. Eduardo's controversial penalty in the second leg of that tie at Emirates Stadium landed him a two-match ban for 'deceiving the referee' but the Croatian striker is available to face Liege after Uefa overturned the suspension. Wenger will be relieved to have Eduardo at his disposal after losing Robin van Persie to a knee injury, while Andrey Arshavin is still out with a groin problem. Denilson, Theo Walcott, Johan Djourou and Samir Nasri are also sidelined but Wenger's biggest concern may be in goal, where Manuel Almunia has a chest infection and Lukasz Fabianski is still recovering from knee surgery. Vito Mannone, who has made just one senior appearance for the club, has been given the nod to start between the posts ahead of fellow youngster Wojciech Szczesny. Liege news Arsenal have been installed as firm favourites to progress from a group that also includes Olympiakos and AZ Alkmaar but Liege will believe they can also finish in the top two. Laszlo Boloni's men are unbeaten in six domestic games so far this season and the manager has faith in his youthful squad. "These young players will be making their Champions League debuts, as every great player has done in the past, so maybe youthful enthusiasm can make up for our lack of experience," said Boloni. Liege will be without Steven Defour, who could be missing for three months after undergoing surgery on a broken foot over the weekend. Wilfried Dalmat (ankle) is also out, while Igor De Camargo is doubtful after picking up a knock to his leg in the 3-0 victory over Mechelen on Saturday.
