Lehmann set to stay put
26 Apr 2007 - 11:59:21
Veteran goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is set to pen a new one-year contract to extend his stay with Arsenal up until the summer of 2008.
The 37-year-old had wanted a two-year deal to remain at the Emirates Stadium, but has now accepted a 12-month extension, having made the decision to stay put rather than head back to Germany.
Lehmann told Bild newspaper: "I will play another season for Arsenal. It is a big club with prospects.
"I do not have to sign for two years, it is not a problem.
"It is more important for me to be playing in the Champions League next season.
"I do not want to be sitting in front of the TV on Wednesdays thinking 'I could have been there'.
"Certainly, the English league keeps me on my toes for another year."
