Jack Wilshere becomes surprise Juventus target
Reports today have revealed that Jack Wilshere has admirers at Italian champions Juventus who have allegedly made enquiries as to his willingness to move to the Old Lady.
The Standard have suggested that enquires have been made regarding the English midfielder but no actual bids have as yet been made. The Juventus bosses are thought to have simply sounded out the club and player to see if both parties may be tempted. A move for the 22-year-old does seem unlikely with suggestions that Wenger would be reticent to sell the player at any price.
There were indications earlier in the transfer window that Wenger had given up on his pursuit of additional midfield players like Sami Khedira despite being open to bolstering the squad in the summer. Wenger revealed that a deal was “never close” to signing Khedira in a press conference ahead of the community shield match on Sunday.
"I don't know who has put Khedira on the market - is it his agent or the press?"
"We were never close to signing him. Jack Wilshere is back fit and in midfield we have offensive midfielders and quite a few box-to-box players."
"We still have three and a half weeks before the transfer market closes.
"I am open to it (transfers) but Joel Campbell has come back plus the addition of the four players we have already bought.
"We have not lost players until now so we have a big squad at the moment."
Despite Wilshere’s smoking controversy the player has a big part to play in Arsenal’s season with suggestions Wenger may accommodate the player in a deep-lying midfield anchor role similar to Arteta that could also provide the player with a better chance of starting for England after the retirement of Gerrard.
Wilshere has been at Arsenal since joining the youth squad in 2001 and made his senior debut in 2008. Wilshere made a total of 35 appearances for the Gunners in 2013-14, two more than the previous season.
