Jack Wilshere: Arsenal's Future Captain Fantastic?

27 November 2012 11:13

Captain Jack! Why Arsenal are willing to offer Jack Wilshere a new bumper contract and prepare to make him captain.

According to reports, Jack Wilshere is set to earn himself a new six year deal worth a minimum of £50,000 a week to stay at The Emirates. The England star has two and a half years to run on his current deal, but the Arsenal hierarchy are obviously desperate to tie down their new leader for the long term.

Wilshere has enjoyed a morale-boosting month after his injury return, most notably scoring against Montepellier to cement Arsenals qualification to the Champions League. Wilshere sprinted off, and kissed the Arsenal badge in front of the Arsenal faithful.

Jack missed 14 months of action – and ultimately missed out on an entire team transition. Prior to his return Jack was playing with the likes of Cesc Fabregas; Samir Nasri; Alex Song; Robin van Persie just to name a few. The modern day footballer would of packed his bags and followed the exodus of top talent leaving the club, but not Jack, Jack stayed.

Not since the days of the Invincible's have Arsenal had a leader. The likes of Vieira, Bergkamp and Henry had been replaced by Fabregas, Nasri and van Persie. Now, no doubt did the three heirs to the Arsenal legends have the ability to channel the Arsenal passion and commitment to the young Gunners, but the three of them lacked true leadership qualities. Not since the colossal Patrick Vieira have Arsenal had a true midfield general. A key figure in the dressing room to not only lift the heads of the team, but to be idolised by the club, in awe of not only his ability, but passion and dedication.

Wilshere has been at Arsenal since the age of 9, and has previously said he has no intention to leave the club, despite their recent form. Now at the age of 20, Wenger has eyed the young Englishman as the successor to Thomas Vermaelen. The Belgium defender is under no immediate danger of losing the armband to Wilshere, but a plan is in place to promote the talented play-maker within the next two-and-a-half years depending on how successful contract talks are. However, a sudden dip in form for Vermaelen has Wenger rumoured to believed to be after a new skipper to ensure his star centre back returns to form.

Arsenal legend Tony Adams' 14 year stint as Arsenal skipper started at the age of 20 – and Wenger is keen to make Jack acknowledge his future is at the Emirates. Having been given the famed number 10 shirt which has been worn by true Arsenal legends, most recently, Dennis Bergkamp.

Upon inheriting the famed number 10 shirt; Jack said: 'It has a special place for all attacking or creative players. I feel proud to wear it now after some real Club legends have worn it, such as Dennis Bergkamp.'

Wilshere plays, looks and sound's like the perfect leader for Arsenal Football Club. Jack passionately defends Wenger and the Arsenal squad, emphasizing how close himself and the team were to success that season and finally ending that eight year trophy drought, whilst ratifying their need to toughen up and becoming true Premier League contenders.

Jack Wilshere shows true dedication to Arsenal FC.
