Chelsea contest the first game of the season when they entertain Hull City at Stamford Bridge at lunchtime (12.45pm). Blackburn Rovers will welcome big-spending Manchester City to Ewood Park with Eastlands boss Mark Hughes under pressure to get off to a good start after spending £90million on new signings over the summer. Aston Villa begin the new campaign with the visit of Wigan Athletic at Villa Park with boss Martin O'Neill looking to improve on their fifth place finish last season. Bolton Wanderers will take on Sunderland at the Rebbok Stadium, while Paul Hart's Portsmouth host Fulham at Fratton Park. Newly-promoted Burnley travel to Stoke City and fellow Premier League newboys Wolves will face off against West Ham United at Molineux. Arsenal will travel to Everton in Saturday's evening game (5.30pm kick-off) to complete a programme of eight games on the first day of the season. Champions Manchester United, who will be aiming for a record 19th Premier League title, will welcome Birmingham City back to the top-flight at Old Trafford on Sunday (1.30pm kick-off). Liverpool also began their campaign with a trip to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham Hotspur (4pm).
