Is Morgan Schneiderlin the man to finally replace Patrick Vieira at Arsenal?

Since the departure of Patrick Vieira it has long been thought that Arsenal’s lack of success on the pitch has been down to their inability to replace him. They have tried, loosely, with the likes of Alex Song, Abou Diaby and Mathieu Flamini, but have failed miserably. Now, former player and Arsenal Legend, Ray Parlour, insists that they must sign Southampton defensive midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin. Schneiderlin has been supremely impressive for the Saints over the past two seasons in his position and there is much evidence that he can provide the spine that Arsenal has been missing so dearly. Additionally, with Tottenham scouting him so closely since this time last year, it would be a huge coup for the red and black side of North London. Did I even mention that he is French? Arsene Wenger should be sold by this alone, based on his signings record over the past decade. But, more importantly, it is time for him to take notice of his inadequate midfield. Ray Parlour spoke on Talksport’s the Weekend Sports Breakfast.

“Morgan Schneiderlin - I’d definitely sign him,” he told the Weekend Sports Breakfast. “

“I watched him against Chelsea and he was fantastic just in front of the back four. He always wanted the ball and was always available but he also got stuck in and won the ball back in vital situations when Chelsea were attacking.”

Based on Parlour’s praises, Schneiderlin is the hard nosed midfielder that Arsenal have not seen since Vieira. Whether or not he can bring Arsenal back to the heights of success that they experienced a decade ago rests solely upon Wenger’s willingness to sign him.
