I don't predict a riot, says Arsene Wenger as he hopes to avoid half-time rant at Burnley
Emotional: Wenger had a few choice words for his players after an abject first half at Anfield[LNB]Arsene Wenger hopes he will not have to read his Arsenal players the riot act at half-time against Burnley tomorrow night - and accepts the job of a modern-day manager is about more than just barking orders.[LNB]Much has been made of the French manager's dressing-room tirade during the interval at Liverpool, where Arsenal had trailed 1-0 following a lacklustre display. [LNB]Captain Cesc Fabregas revealed in a post-match interview Wenger had "screamed.... and said we didn't deserve to wear the Arsenal shirt if we played like that". [LNB]The psychology, however, seemed to work, as the Gunners bounced back to win 2-1 and close the gap on Premier League leaders Chelsea to six points with a match in hand. [LNB]Wenger was also just as quick to show his appreciation to the players after the final whistle, applauding them as they returned to the dressing room. [LNB]The Gunners boss has, during some 13 campaigns at the helm, dealt with a complete range of personalities within his squad - from the likes of former captain Tony Adams, through World Cup winner Thierry Henry and temperamental defender William Gallas, whom Wenger last season stripped of the armband after public criticism of the young team.[LNB]Wenger knows each and every single person needs to be treated on an individual basis. [LNB]'I have, for a long time, behaved in this job exactly as I think I have to, or that suits me, but we try to adapt to every single situation that we face,' he said. [LNB] Galvanised: Arsenal turned the match against Liverpool on its head after Wenger's half-time team talk[LNB]'As a manager, you must first of all love to help people, to give them a chance in life, and to develop players, then you must have a big resistance to stress - all the rest, you learn.[LNB]'It has always been the same. Every player is under big pressure, despite the fact they are idolised, they need help. [LNB]'At a young age, people treat you like a mature man, but you are not. [LNB]'It is a very hard job, and you want to help people who have the right attitude and want to achieve something.'[LNB]Wenger added: 'I learn everyday, and that is quite interesting. [LNB]'I learn a lot about myself as well, but the problem has always been you are facing people who want to do well in their life, and your job is to try to help them achieve something. [LNB]'That has not changed - today the basic human problems are still the same.'[LNB]Arsenal made the most of slip-ups by both Chelsea, who drew 3-3 with Everton at Stamford Bridge, and Manchester United, beaten at home by Aston Villa, to drag themselves back into the title race. [LNB]Wenger feels this campaign is the "most open" of recent times. [LNB]'Why? Because nobody looks to run away early in the season,' he said. 'Instead of having four teams, I believe you have six, seven or eight teams who can all cause a surprise at any weekend. [LNB] Open race: The 'Invincibles' achievement is unlikely to be repeated[LNB]'Things change very quickly. What looks for definite in this league is just short-term. No situation is definitely established. 'Chelsea looked to be running away with it two weeks ago, today it is different. That is why, certainly since I have been here, this is the most open championship.'[LNB]Wenger added: 'The real message we have given out is that Arsenal is ready for a fight and that we do not give up. [LNB]'But to think that we can relax would just demonstrate we are not very intelligent. I believe we are. [LNB]'If we have learned one thing from the beginning of the season until now, it is that every single team has to be considered very seriously and we have to be highly committed and focused.'[LNB]Wenger, meanwhile, confirmed there was no chance Fabregas would be released to play for Catalonia in their friendly against Argentina on December 22, after being selected by Johan Cruyff. [LNB]'There are priorities which we have to respect, and the priorities are the club,' said the Gunners boss.
