How Emmanuel Eboue turned the jeers to cheers at Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has hailed Emmanuel Eboue as a shining example of how hard work can win back the support of Arsenal's fans. Arsenal take on Wigan at the Emirates on Saturday and in the corresponding fixture last season, Eboue was subjected to far worse treatment from his own supporters than anything former team-mate Emmanuel Adebayor ever faced.  Back in the good books: Emmanuel Eboue Eboue was booed when he was brought on in the 32nd minute and jeered even more when he was withdrawn in the 90th. His Arsenal career appeared in tatters. But, remarkably, the Ivory Coast utility player has battled his way back into the affections of the fans. 'Eboue is a guy who wants to do well and is humble and decent to people,' said Wenger. 'When you have that in life, you always have a chance to improve your behaviour. If you only think you are right, you cannot improve. He analysed well what happened and changed. He has always been a good guy, loved in the dressing room. 'I think it worked for him because people think, "Come on, we have gone too far there. No matter what happens we have to stand behind the players".' That is not always the case when players move, as the reaction to Adebayor's 90-yard celebration dash at Manchester City last week demonstrated. But Wenger, keen to draw a line under the situation, said: 'In our job you accept that you give and don't expect any return, so you are never disappointed. In this case I don't feel I have done too badly.'
