Former France striker Thierry Henry made a sensational start to his second spell at English Premier League side Arsenal when he scored 11 minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute in the FA Cup third round clash with Leeds United.

The 34-year-old - a World Cup winner with France in 1998 - broke the deadlock between the Gunners and their Championship opponents in the 79th minute as he slid an angled shot in from the left side of the box to announce his return in style.

He celebrated by rushing to the touchline to hug manager Arsene Wenger.

He had received a standing ovation in the 68th minute when he replaced Moroccan international striker Marouane Chamakh.

Henry has been training with the Londoners since the close of the MLS season in November and recently had a statue of him unveiled at the Emirates Stadium to underline his enduring popularity at the club.

The New York Red Bulls star signed a two month loan deal with Arsenal on Friday.

Henry made 370 appearances for Arsenal during his previous stint and remains the club's all-time leading goalscorer with 226 goals.

Henry joined Arsenal from Juventus in 1999, developing into one of the world's best attackers under the guidance of Arsene Wenger.

He was a member of the club's double-winning team in 2002 and part of the legendary 'Invincibles' side in 2004 that went a whole season unbeaten.

He left for Barcelona in 2007 and won a treble of La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League titles with the Catalan club in 2009 before heading to Major League Soccer in 2010.
