HATCHET MAN: Why Toffees will come unstuck by bringing in Arsenal flop Philippe Senderos

06 August 2009 10:03
If Philippe Senderos joins Everton, he will only make them weaker. What David Moyes is thinking in pursuing the defender is anybody's guess. Senderos may be intelligent when his head is in the books but he seems to find the idea of preventing other teams scoring goals a very confusing concept. Everton have been built as a well organised, hard-to-beat side but if Joleon Lescott is replaced by Senderos the foundations will have been compromised. The team has to be strong all the way through the middle and while Lescott may not be worth the £20million-plus Manchester City may be ready to pay for him, he is still a better defender than Senderos by far. Everton cannot claim to be a leading club any more but they can still have ambition. They have somehow managed to get by without the money of some of their rivals too but if they sell their better players and bring in cheaper, inferior replacements a long struggle awaits.
