Top Gunner: Arsenal's Thomas Vermaelen has given Wenger cause to smile[LNB]Arsene Wenger countered accusations of an Arsenal crisis by claiming the club is on the verge of a spectacular new dawn. [LNB]After watching his side bounce back from two Premier League defeatswith a 4-0 mauling of Wigan, Wenger said: 'I am very optimistic thatthere is something really special in this team. [LNB]'They have a great attitude, quality and fluency. I think we havebeen producing quality performances from the first day of the season.' [LNB]Thomas Vermaelen, Wenger's one big-money summer signing, scored thefirst two goals and also helped Arsenal to their first Premier Leagueclean sheet of the campaign. [LNB]The £10million centre half has now struck four goals and Wengersaid: 'Thomas scored two good goals but that's no surprise to us. Weall know that he has got a very good shot.' [LNB] Arsenal's win pulls them back to within six points of leaders Chelsea, much to Wenger's relief. [LNB]'If you don't get points you are quickly off the pace,' he said.
