The League Cup is 50 years old. With the help of Sunday's Wembley matchday programme, Sportsmail picks its favourite matches from the competition's past.[LNB]1976: Manchester City 2 Newcastle 1Dennis Tueart scored a stunning overhead kick to win the Cup for City their last major trophy. Peter Barnes had put City ahead, only for Alan Gowling to equalise. Magpies fan Tueart then hit his spectacular winner and later celebrated in a Newcastle shirt![LNB][LNB]1972: Stoke 3 West Ham 2Two legs and one replay had failed to find a winner in this epic semi-final but the fourth attempt was a classic. West Ham's Bobby Moore went in goal after seven minutes and saved a penalty but, having trailed 2-1, Stoke levelled eight minutes into first-half injury time and got a winner after the break. Keeper Kevin Pilkington gifted an opener to Paul Barnes and Pat McGibbon was then sent off on his United debut, allowing Barnes to net a penalty. Tony Barras scored the third and York ultimately took an aggregate win.[LNB][LNB][LNB]1990: Oldham 6 West Ham 0On Oldham's plastic pitch in bad weather, Joe Royle's exciting 3-4-3 line-up proved too much for a creaking West Ham side, which included Liam Brady, Alan Devonshire and Alvin Martin. West Ham won the second leg of the semi-final 3-0, but the damage was done.[LNB][LNB]2008: Spurs 5 Arsenal 1This was Tottenham's first win against Arsenal in nine years.Jermaine Jenas, Robbie Keane, Aaron Lennon, Steed Malbranque and aNicklas Bendtner own goal did the damage in this semi-final second leg.[LNB] No love lost: Arsenal's Nicklas Bendtner and Emmanuel Adebayor square up to each other during the Gunners League Cup humiliation[LNB]1988: Arsenal 2 Luton Town 3A penalty save by Andy Dibble from Nigel Winterburn was the turning point of this final. Arsenal were leading 2-1 with goals from Martin Hayes and Alan Smith after Brian Stein had scored first. Then Danny Wilson made it 2-2, before Stein won the League Cup in the 90th minute. Stein played with a cast to protect a broken arm.[LNB][LNB]1979: Nottingham Forest 3 Southampton 2Cloughie's team drank champagne the night before the game and the trick worked. They played champagne football, with Garry Birtles scoring twice.[LNB][LNB]1969: Arsenal 1 Swindon Town 3One of the great upsets. Playing on a Wembley pitch ruined by the Horse of the Year show the previous week, Arsenal were humbled by Third-Division Swindon in the final.
