Giant Fulham centre back Brede Hangeland has responded to the persistent rumours that Arsenal want to buy him by telling Roy Hodgson: 'I want to stay' Staying put: Fulham's Brede Hangeland will reject Arsenal's £8m bid The 6ft 4in Norway star is reported to have been targeted by the Gunners to tighten up their leaky defence but Hangeland insists he has no intention of quitting Craven Cottage. The 27-year-old said: 'We have been going in the right direction from the time I came here in January last year. Hopefully we can agree a new contract, and then I'll stay here for a long time.' Arsenal are rumoured to have made an £8m bid for Hangeland but Cottage boss Hodgson wants to keep the side together and make a challenge for Europa League after a best-ever League finish of seventh. He will offer the defender a much-improved deal - or attempt to divert Gunners manager Arsene Wenger towards Ajax skipper Thomas Vermaelen by inflating Hangeland's price drastically.
