Hamstring strain sidelines Cesc
25 Aug 2009 - 13:29:02
Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has been ruled out of Wednesday's Champions League encounter with Celtic at the Emirates Stadium with a hamstring strain.
The Spain international picked up the problem in Saturday's 4-1 victory against Portsmouth when he was substituted at half-time.
Fabregas had a scan on the injured muscle on Tuesday morning which Gunners boss Arsene Wenger revealed had been "reassuring".
"From last Saturday we lost Cesc Fabregas who did not train today," he added.
"His scan was quite reassuring as he has no muscular strain but it will take a few days to settle down.
"There's a chance he'll be fit for Old Trafford."
Arsenal virtually sealed their place in Friday's draw for the group stage of the competition by winning 2-0 at Celtic Park last week in the first leg of the encounter.
