Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has confirmed that left to him, he would have chosen to join Barcelona this summer.
The Gunners refused to allow the 23-year-old Spain international to head back to his former club and Fabregas has accepted the decision for the time being.
He told the Daily Mail: "Barcelona did all they could to sign me, but Arsenal told me I had to stay, that there was no way they were going to let me go.
"In the end I had to stay, but the contents of my conversation with (manager) Arsene Wenger will remain private."
Fabregas, who has scored 48 goals in 269 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions, is still expected in many quarters to be heading back to the Camp Nou in a year's time.
