    Gunners sweat on Fabregas

    22 Dec 2008 - 07:36:53

Manager Arsene Wenger was left sweating on a knee injury suffered by captain Cesc Fabregas following Arsenal's 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool.

Fabregas lasted just 45 minutes of the Emirates Stadium clash on Sunday, with Wenger fearing that the Spaniard could be sidelined for several weeks.

He said after the stalemate: "It's a medial knee ligament injury, but I don't know how long he will be out.

"It's difficult to assess, it could be one week or three weeks.

"Of course it is a blow, you don't want to lose a player like that, but we have to cope with it."

Meanwhile, Wenger was less than impressed by the red card dished out to striker Emmanuel Adebayor by referee Howard Webb, with the Togo striker now ruled out of the Boxing Day showdown with Aston Villa.

"It was very soft," Wenger added. "If we get red cards like that from opponents away from home then I'm very happy.

"It was not a red card, it was not a second yellow card. I don't know what it was for and I'm sure he (the referee) doesn't know.

"It's frustrating because we had a nervy first half as we were under pressure to win this game and I knew we would finish very strongly.

"We played high up in the second half and we could not take advantage of the fact we were slowly taking control of the game because we were down to ten men."
