    Gunners shun Atletico bid

    25 Aug 2006 - 07:59:34

Arsenal have rejected Atletico Madrid's surprise bid for Spain winger Jose Antonio Reyes.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a move to Atletico's city rivals Real Madrid this summer, but the Gunners have now turned down offers from both clubs.

Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein told Sky Sports News: "They have made an offer which has been rejected.

"As it stands, Jose Antonio Reyes is an Arsenal player and he may very well remain an Arsenal player."

Meanwhile, Dein also confirmed that there has been little progress in the pursuit of Chelsea's William Gallas, while the Blues' efforts to land Ashley Cole have yet to bear fruit.

He added: "We have made it clear we would like William Gallas.

"When we negotiate it has to be at a level we believe is right for our budget, but there is no progress to relate.

"There's still a few more days to go of the transfer window, but at the moment Ashley Cole is an Arsenal player, and may very well remain an Arsenal player.

"If that's the case, we're relaxed. Whatever happens will happen."
