    Gunners rally behind Wenger

    27 Nov 2008 - 08:14:05

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has hit out at the "ridiculous" suggestion that the club's board are losing faith in manager Arsene Wenger.

The Frenchman has been at the helm of the Gunners for 12 years, during which time he has become the club's most successful manager.

But the failure to land the Premier League title since 2004 and their inability to keep pace with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United during a disappointing current season has led to speculation that he was beginning to lose the backing of the board.

The disciplinary problems surrounding William Gallas and his subsequent removal as the club's captain have also added to suggestions that all is not well behind the scenes at the Emirates Stadium.

However, Hill-Wood insists the north London club remain united behind Wenger and steadfast in their support of the manager.

"Of course he has my backing. What he has done for the club over the last 12 years has been fantastic," Hill-Wood told Arsenal TV.

"We are only a third of the way through the season and we have had a few disappointing results, but you do not lose faith in a man like him after three or four bad results.

"It is a ridiculous suggestion really."
