    Gunners fear Gallas worst

    08 Apr 2009 - 07:32:33

Arsenal defender William Gallas could miss the rest of the season with expected medial knee ligament damage.

The France international was injured in the first half of Tuesday's 1-1 Champions League quarter-final first-leg draw with Villarreal.

Gallas was involved in a collision with Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi late in the first half and had to be replaced by Johan Djourou.

"It looks quite serious and could be medial knee ligament injury," confirmed Gunners boss Arsene Wenger.

"It looks quite serious. We will have to asses it and I am not a doctor, but the first signs do not look too good."

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Manuel Almunia is also likely to miss next week's return leg after suffering a recurrence of an ankle problem.

The Spanish keeper had to be replaced by Lukasz Fabianski with just 30 minutes on the clock at El Madrigal.

"Manuel is a recurrence of an ankle injury which probably will be a couple of weeks," added Wenger.
