Arsenal have confirmed that Brazilian midfielder Gilberto Silva will be sidelined for at least a month due to a back problem.
The 28-year-old missed the weekend 1-0 victory at Manchester Cit and boss Arsene Wenger has now admitted that his player faces a lengthy spell out of action.
He told the club's official website: "We don't know how long he will be out for, but it will be at least one month without any physical effort.
"It is a strange injury and an injury which usually concerns young players. I don't know if it is a recurrence of an injury he had when he was young.
"It could be a small fracture in one of his vertebras.
"It is a blow. Gilberto is a team player and just look at what he has won, the World Cup, the championship and the FA Cup, in recent years."
