Gunners shot down

Chelsea got back to winning ways in the Premier League after last weekend's defeat to Manchester City, by beating Arsenal 2-0. Didier Drogba was a thorn in Arsenal's side once again, bullying their defenders all afternoon, and he got the first goal six minutes before the break when he cleverly backheeled Ashley Cole's cross in at the near post of Lukasz Fabianski. Arsenal's back line have long had issues with Drogba, but as he lined up an 85th-minute free-kick, everyone in Stamford Bridge was surprised to see Alex power in a 30-yard drive to seal the win. Chelsea could have had more goals, with Nicolas Anelka slotting wide with an open goal at his mercy, while Cole had a drive into the bottom corner ruled out for offside. Michael Essien also missed two fine chances for the home side, who sit on the top of the league and are seven points ahead of Arsenal. The Gunners did have chances of their own, though, most notably an early free header which Laurent Koscielny inexplicably put over the bar.
