Gunners boss to rest Wilshere

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits that, sooner or later, he will have to give young midfielder Jack Wilshere a rest.[LNB] The 18-year-old has enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Gunners, involved in every game except the three he was forced to miss through suspension after a much-publicised red card for a reckless challenge on Birmingham striker Nikola Zigic.[LNB]Wilshere also won his first senior England cap against Hungary in August and is expected to be given another chance by Fabio Capello for next week's friendly with France at Wembley.[LNB]Wenger has seen his hand somewhat forced by injuries in terms of giving Wilshere more experience, the teenager having benefited from last season's loan spell at Bolton and now with 13 starts already.[LNB]However, the Arsenal manager accepts while taken aback by the rapid ascent of the young Gunner, Wilshere will soon have to be given a breather.[LNB]"There is a lot of competition in midfield, but less than up front at the moment - we have Abou Diaby out, Aaron Ramsey still out, so basically we have Alex Song, Denilson and Wilshere.[LNB]"If you look at the number of games Jack has played, you would have never expected that.[LNB]"However, given what is happening with him, at some stage I will have to rest him."[LNB]Wilshere has developed a good understanding with captain Cesc Fabregas at the heart of the Gunners midfield, which will face another stern test at Everton on Sunday.[LNB]However, Wilshere believes the team can take a lot from the manner of their battling 2-0 victory at Wolves in midweek.[LNB]"After the Newcastle game, when we had a disappointing result, we wanted to get back on our feet and get three points. We showed we are capable of doing that away from home," Wilshere told Arsenal TV Online.[LNB]"Last season, we may have only got a point when Wolves were coming at us, but this year we are a different team.[LNB]"It is going to be a tough game again at Everton, but we have to do what we did on Wednesday - put a battling performance in and try to get three points."[LNB]Wilshere set a new club record as the youngest player to appear in a Premier League match during September 2008.[LNB]Initially deployed out wide, the teenager is relishing the chance of his preferred central role.[LNB]"I have always played in the middle, until I broke into the first team. The boss said it was good to learn another position and that eventually I would play in the middle," Wilshere recalled.[LNB]"I was still young and he started me out on the wing, but this season I have shown I can play there and he has shown some faith in me."[LNB]Wilshere added: "What we have got now is the perfect balance.[LNB]"We have Song and Denilson who can hold, me and Aaron who can hold and go forward, then Cesc who can go forwards all the time, so we have a good squad."[LNB]Like Wenger, the young midfielder admits his rapid progress this season was somewhat unexpected.[LNB]"There had been talk of me going to Bolton again, but the boss saw me in pre-season and wanted me to stay and that I was going to play here," Wilshere said.[LNB]"There was no bit of me that thought I was going to play this much, but I am delighted and hopefully it will carry on."[LNB]Wilshere, though, is not resting on his laurels.[LNB]"In this squad there are players in your position who are ready to take your position, so you have got to perform week in and week out," he said.[LNB]Wenger has suggested he could freshen things up at Goodison Park, with both Theo Walcott and Samir Nasri left on the bench against Wolves.[LNB]Everton have recovered from a poor start to embark upon a run of seven Premier League matches without defeat.[LNB]David Moyes' side have drawn with Manchester United and beaten arch-rivals Liverpool at home, and Wenger warned: "They have the quality and we have to make sure we are really well prepared for this game.[LNB]"Everton are a team who are used to slow starts, and always in the second half of the season they finish sprinting.[LNB]"It will certainly be a good game because they are a good team with good players, and we are as well, so it promises a very exciting game."
