Northampton have signed former Arsenal defender Paul Rodgers on a one-year deal after he spent pre-season with the club. Right-back Rodgers made one first-team appearance for Arsenal and spent the second half of last season on loan at Sixfields, making 11 appearances. Cobblers boss Stuart Gray said: "I think Paul came on in leaps and bounds in his time with us last season and I am pleased he has signed." He added: "We need pace in the side and Paul brings that and gives us a good balance at the back. "We have plenty of experience in defence and Paul's pace will offer a good blend. "He is another player with an excellent attitude and he has a real hunger to do well and kick his career on. "He is a very ambitious young player who has had an excellent grounding at Arsenal. "He has all the attributes to become a very good player and I am sure he can and will learn from those around him as he continues to develop. "He can play at right-back or at centre-back and he will give us options in defence."
