Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva has revealed he hopes to remain at the Emirates Stadium next season.
The 31-year-old Brazil international had looked to be on his way out of the north London club after losing the captaincy and starting in just 20 Premier League games for the Gunners last season.
But despite reports suggesting he was unhappy at the club, Gilberto claims he wants to stay and fight for his first-team place.
His starting opportunities next season may have increased following Mathieu Flamini's decision to join AC Milan.
"I do want to stay," he revealed. "It depends when I come back if Arsene (Wenger) wants me to stay.
"I still have one year left on my contract. I'm happy to stay at the club.
"I will wait until I return to London and pre-season training on 21 July and then I will sit down and talk about it."
