Giggs up for European Footballer of the Year a month before his 36th birthday

Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs is among 10 Barclays Premier League players up for the European Footballer of the Year award. Giggs is joined on the 30-man Ballon d'Or shortlist by United team-mates Wayne Rooney and Nemanja Vidic. Chelsea also have three players - Frank Lampard, John Terry and Didier Drogba - in contention, while Arsenal and Liverpool both have two. Cesc Fabregas and Andrey Arshavin are up for the Gunners, while Liverpool pair Stevem Gerrard and Fernando Torres are also shortlisted. Last year's winner Cristiano Ronaldo is also in the running after his world record £80million swich from United to Real Madrid. European champions Barcelona have six players in the race. The Ballon d'Or is voted for by journalists and organised by France Football magazine. The winner will be announced on December 1.
