Gibbs verdict boosts Wenger
19 Nov 2009 - 08:16:03
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has finally received some good injury news after it was revealed that Kieran Gibbs has not fractured his foot.
The England Under-21 international was injured during Tuesday night's European Championship qualifier in Lithuania and it was feared he was facing a long period on the sidelines.
However, a statement on the Gunners' official website read: "After being assessed by the Arsenal medical staff, the club can confirm that Kieran Gibbs has sustained severe bruising to the bones and soft tissue of his right foot.
"Thankfully the foot is not fractured and his enforced absence will be short term."
It is expected that the full-back will be available for the visit of Chelsea to the Emirates Stadium on November 29.
It is a relief for Wenger as Gael Clichy is still some way short of making a return to first-team action.
Gibbs has only made six appearances for the north London club this season but has already been touted for a call into Fabio Capello's full England squad for next summer's World Cup.
Arsenal are already without a host of injured stars with Robin van Persie, Johan Djourou, Denilson, Theo Walcott and Nicklas Bendtner all currently sidelined.
