Gallas in new Blues attack
10 Sep 2006 - 11:02:58
Arsenal new boy William Gallas has continued his war of words with his former club Chelsea by accusing them of damaging his career.
The Blues launched a stinging attack on Gallas following his deadline day move to Arsenal, accusing him of threatening to deliberately score an own goal.
The France international denied those allegations and has now hit back by claiming that being selected out of position by Chelsea prevented him becoming one of the world's best defenders.
The 29-year-old told the News of the World: "I could have become one of the best players in the world at Chelsea but was never given the chance.
"I was dragged around to play in different positions just to please the manager.
"I have been done a disservice for a long time. I couldn't progress as a player because you need stability - I never had that.
"It wasn't the position in itself that bothered me, just the fact I was always changing.
"I could have stayed on the left and become one of the best players in the world at that position, the same for the right-hand side - but I was never given that chance.
"You need to be given a whole season in one of those positions. Now I'm recognised for my qualities in the centre - but that could have happened a lot sooner."
