Further surgery for Rosicky
12 Nov 2008 - 07:00:50
Arsenal have confirmed that Czech Republic midfielder Tomas Rosicky has undergone further surgery to try and overcome long-term knee problems.
The 28-year-old has not featured for the Gunners since January, while his ongoing problems meant that he also missed this summer's European Championship finals.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger had hoped to see Rosicky back in action around Christmas, but that return date may be pushed further back.
A statement from Arsenal read: "On Monday, Tomas Rosicky underwent routine revision surgery in Germany.
"The operation went as planned and Tomas will now spend at least a few weeks convalescing in Germany.
"Thereafter, he will follow a tailored rehabilitation programme devised by our medical team."
Wenger had admitted around a month ago: "I monitor Tomas Rosicky's progress very closely, but at the moment it is very difficult to put a date on his comeback.
"We are not pessimistic about the future of his career, but we still need more patience.
"If he comes back before Christmas we have done very well, but I think we can achieve that, so in December he can play again."
Rosicky joined the Gunners in the summer of 2006 from Borussia Dortmund, but has been restricted to just 61 appearances for the north London club, scoring 13 goals in the process.
