Fresh injury blow for Theo
20 Mar 2009 - 14:35:27
Arsenal forward Theo Walcott is expected to be ruled out of the England Under-21 squad for their forthcoming double header after injuring his knee during training on Friday.
The 20-year-old has only just returned to action following four months on the sidelines with a shoulder injury.
But after suffering a fresh setback in training, Walcott has been ruled out of Saturday's Premier League trip to Newcastle United.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger also expects him to be withdrawn from the England Under-21 squad for the games against France and Norway in the next ten days.
"Walcott got injured today in training," he told the club's official website. "We have to test it. He has a scan on his knee today.
"We are surprised and worried. He was in very good form coming back and that is very bad news for us and for England.
"For the rest of the season might be too long, but he's out of tomorrow's squad and he could be out of the England squad.
"He locked his knee so it could be a cartilage problem. He did it walking back from training. He was fully normal during training but maybe it only came out when he stopped.
"We have to see how he responds today and I hope it's not really serious."
