Four things we learnt from the Premier League this weekend

5 Star Arsenal, Almost Perfection

Based on the last two Arsenal performances, one has to credit Arsene Wenger as his team is finally really looking like one of Europe’s best. Beating the champions at the Etihad and putting five past Aston Villa seems to be the dawn of a new Arsenal. Suddenly they are tactically versatile and extremely potent going forward, right on cue for the top four run-in with Liverpool, Tottenham and Southampton.

City Just Can’t Win Without Yaya Toure

Even with a vastly depleted Chelsea side on the ropes reeling from wave after wave of Manchester City attack, the defending champions just could not find a winner. In truth it is not that Chelsea defended valiantly but due to wayward crossing there was very little goal mouth action aside from the two goals. Ultimately Jose’s silence seemed to be the most exciting feature at the Bridge leaving the top two just as they were last time out. City should be a little worried though as they have found the back of the net pretty elusive of late.

Saints Now Stumbling

After a horror showing at home to Chelsea, Swansea City more than made up for the last match as they put up a resilient fight to beat the Saints. The defeat on a day where all the other top four contenders won leaves Southampton fourth only on goal difference . It does look as if the prophets of doom may have been right about them after all.

Hull City Really In Trouble

On a day where the Hull City fans fancied their chances against a manager-less Newcastle all went terribly wrong. After a good start as marginally better side they conceded the first goal. Then the drama really started; El Mahomady’s attempt at performing “the hand of god” was efficiently spotted by the officials even as he seemed to run off in celebration. Jelavic managed to miss when easier to score and defensive howlers meant Hull conceded two more prompting the fans to leave early. Never has Steve Bruce looked so defeated with relegation looking increasingly likely.
