Fears for Fabregas as Arsenal skipper is struck by hamstring blow

Arsenal are sweating over the fitness of captain Cesc Fabregas after it emerged he is a serious doubt to face Manchester United next Saturday with a hamstring injury. Fabregas was replaced at half-time during the 4-1 Emirates win over Portsmouth at the weekend and the Barcelona target could now face up to three weeks out. The Spaniard faces a fitness test today (Monday) to assess the extent of the problem but manager Arsene Wenger admits he will almost certainly miss Wednesday Champions League play-off second leg tie at home to Celtic. 'Cesc has a hamstring problem. He will be short for Wednesday certainly,' said Wenger. 'If it's a little pull he'll be out for three weeks. If it's just a tightness maybe he can get away for the Celtic game but after 48 hours we'll have a better view.' Fabregas has been in imperious form so far this season, particularly during his two-goal performance in the opening day 6-1 thrashing of Everton. But even before the Gunners 2-0 first leg win at Parkhead the midfielder had been doubt to start due to his troublesome hamstring and this time it looks like he could now be sidelined through out most of September.
