Fabregas relieved after late equaliser
Published : 08 Jan 2011 16:30:03
Cesc Fabregas could not hide his relief after sparing Arsenal's FA Cup blushes with a late equaliser from the penalty spot against Championship outfit Leeds.Skipper Fabregas was among several stars rested by manager Arsene Wenger but, with the Gunners trailing to a Robert Snodgrass penalty, was brought on just before the hour mark of the third-round tie.Fabregas and England striker Theo Walcott, who replaced Marouane Chamakh, inspired a late spell of pressure which eventually brought a penalty when Ben Parker tugged at Walcott's shirt and Fabregas fired home a last-minute leveller."It was a very difficult game," Fabregas told ITV. "We didn't pass the ball well enough or quick enough in the first half and they got confidence from that and then they got a penalty."But we managed in the last 30 minutes to produce a good performance and put them under a lot of pressure. Their keeper should be given the man-of-the-match award. He was fantastic."Now we have to go back to Leeds, which will be hard and we will have to be at our best to beat them. We were hoping to have had a week off but we want to be in every single competition."
