Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas hopes he will still be with the Gunners next season after helping Arsene Wenger's side ease to a 2-0 victory against Reading.

The Spaniard has been linked with a return to his homeland but believes his immediate future is likely to be in north London.

He said after the Emirates Stadium success: "My future? I really hope it belongs to Arsenal.

"The win against Reading was important for pride, for the fans, for ourselves. We are all disappointed for the season, how it finished.

"I think we did pretty well all season but at the end it was disappointing. We needed a performance like this to try to finish as best we can.

"We don't want to always say 'next year, next year'. I think it is a mistake. We want to do it now."

Meanwhile, Wenger believes his current squad is the best group of players he has worked with during his time with the club.

He said: "The collective technical display has been the best in the last 12 years, but we have not won.

"Maybe, with some distance, you could say that we had nothing to lose at the start of the season and when we were under pressure at the start of March, we lost a bit.

"We were unlucky and there was also maybe a lack of maturity. But when you see us win like we did today, with so much quality, it makes it even more important to keep the squad together.

"This will also help us to convince people we have to win with our own style."
