Fabregas hints at Gunners stay
01 Jul 2010 - 09:36:19
Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has dropped a strong hint that he could stay at the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Fabregas has been the subject of one unsuccessful bid from Barcelona before the World Cup after reportedly telling Gunners boss Arsene Wenger that he wanted to return to his former club after seven years in north London.
Wenger pledged to fight to keep hold of the 23-year-old midfielder, who has made over 250 first-team appearences since breaking into the first team in 2004.
Incoming Barcelona president Sandro Rosell made the capture of Fabregas his main priority this summer.
However, Fabregas has suggested that a return to Catalonia might not be the inevitable transfer that recent reports have suggested.
"I haven't said that I will definitely leave Arsenal," he told The Mirror.
"Everything is possible. Now I have my head and my focus on the World Cup. I am very proud to be captain of Arsenal and I love the club and have respect for them. It gave me much pride to be made captain."
