Fabio Capello drafts in Arsenal reserve James Shea with England

Fabio Capello's quest to solve his goalkeeping problem took another bizarre twist today as he was forced to draft in an Arsenal rookie during training. [LNB]Both Ben Foster and Scott Carson - struggling with knee and back injuries respectively - were unable to train at London Colney on Tuesday morning. [LNB]This left Capello with just No 1 Joe Hart, so he had to ask 19-year-old Gunners keeper James Shea to step in between the sticks. [LNB] Big move: James Shea joins Joe Hart for England's training session on Tuesday[LNB]Shea was an unused substitute in Arsenal's reserve team win against Bolton last Wednesday.[LNB]He was a near ever-present in Arsenal's all-conquering youth team of 2009, who won both the FA Premier Academy league title and the FA Youth Cup.[LNB]With Foster and Carson both unable to play any part, it has worrying implications for the opening Euro 2012 qualifiers with Bulgaria and Switzerland. [LNB] Injuries left Capello to draft in Watford's Under-21 keeper Scott Loach and Blackburn fourth choice Frankie Fielding for the friendly win over Hungary earlier this month. [LNB]Down to business: Capello[LNB]The situation is not quite that desperate yet but Capello was forced to ask Arsenal to supply reserve keeper Shea to ensure the England squad had two goalkeepers to train with. [LNB]The Football Association suggested there were unlikely to be any call-ups today, although Capello will want assurances that either Foster or Carson will be fit enough to take their place on the bench on Friday. [LNB]Given Hart had been earmarked to play in goal on Friday a potentially more significant problem was the absences of Phil Jagielka (ankle) and Peter Crouch (back). [LNB] The duo had already been rated doubtful by club bosses David Moyes and Harry Redknapp respectively and there must be a huge question mark over the pair being fit enough to face the Bulgarians, who have managed three draws but also suffered two defeats in five matches on English soil. [LNB]Jagielka was expected to start in central defence, where Capello is sorely lacking in options. The recall of Matthew Upson does offer some experience but the West Ham man's 21 caps is more than the other four potential centre-halves put together.[LNB] Joleon Lescott is the most experienced of the remaining quartet but he has played all his football for Manchester City this season at left back. [LNB]Gary Cahill is yet to make his Three Lions debut while Michael Dawson made his first appearance as a substitute against Hungary.  [LNB] Ready to go: England's players are put through their paces in training[LNB] Back to the bad old days for England boss Capello as Euro qualifiers loomMARTIN KEOWN: How I'd tackle the problem of England's defensive woes[LNB]
