    Fabianski pens Gunners deal

    12 Jun 2009 - 14:18:35

Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has pledged his future to the club after agreeing terms on a new long-term contract.

The 24-year-old shot-stopper made 18 first-team appearances for the Gunners last season - his second with the club - and is highly rated by manager Arsene Wenger.

The former Legia Warsaw youngster has developed into a full Poland international during his time with the north London club.

"I rate Lukasz highly and I am very pleased that he has committed his future to the club," Wenger told the club's official website.

"I believe he is a top competitor. He is intelligent and reads the game very well and has all the ingredients to be successful in his position."

Fabianski stepped in when regular number one Manuel Almunia was injured last season and has now set his sights on ousting the Spaniard on a permanent basis.

He said: "I'm very happy to sign my new contract with Arsenal. It's a big motivation for me to keep working hard and shows that the club believe in me.

"I'll be doing everything I can to repay that belief by helping Arsenal win trophies in the coming years."
