FA charge won't stop me celebrating like that again, insists City's Adebayor

Emmanuel Adebayor says he won't rein in his celebrations - despite landing an FA charge for incensing Arsenal supporters at Eastlands earlier this month. The Manchester City new boy has few regrets about running the length of the pitch and sliding on his knees in front of the Gunners fans after scoring in his side's 4-2 win a fortnight ago. Adebayor was banned for three matches for stamping on Robin van Persie in the same match and has until Wednesday to respond to an improper conduct charge over his celebration. And he defiantly warned disciplinary chiefs: 'I am not afraid and I will still celebrate with emotion. 'When you start to take emotion out of football you are going to have a very big problem. For the fans and the players it is a very emotional game, and when you take out emotion you have to question if people still care about the game.' In the interview with ShortList magazine, he admitted he was hurt by the hot reception from Arsenal fans and said the level of abuse was hard to ignore. The 25-year-old joined the Gunners from Monaco for £4million in January 2006 but left for City this summer in a £25m deal after spending much of the last year flirting with AC Milan. 'I was disappointed (by the reaction of fans) because I very much enjoyed my time at Arsenal. 'An offer came in for me and the club decided to accept it, I did not make any trouble and I did not say anything in the papers to try and get myself a move. 'An offer came in and the club thought it was an offer that was good for them. They chose to sell me, I did not ask to leave.' That said, he is relishing the challenge at City and believes that manager Mark Hughes is the perfect mentor. 'Sparky' was a bustling centre forward as a player with Manchester United and Adebayor, who revealed a target to score 20 goals this season, said: 'I think he is a great manager and was of course he was a great player, so it is only natural I am learning from him and he is teaching me new things and adding new qualities to my game. 'He was a big reason why I joined City, after I spoke to him I knew that he had great ambitions and I wanted to play for a manager like him.' Adebayor has even seen enough to believe City can win the title this season, despite many at Eastlands trying to cool expectations. Of course there is a long-term plan at this club but with the way we have playing there is no reason we should have to wait for success if we are ready now. 'We have the players to compete with any team in Europe so yes I am willing to say that we can win the title as early as this season.'
