Everton dismay after England pass on Jack Rodwell but call up Arsenal starlet Wilshere

His time will come, David Moyes is sure of that, but there was still a sense of dismay among many an Everton follower at Jack Rodwell evidently finding himself behind Jack Wilshere in the queue for England places. Some way behind, at that.[LNB] Sportsmail has learned that, prior to any England squad being announced, clubs are circulated a list of candidates under consideration, so they know if they may be about to lose a player to international duty. [LNB]It is believed to contain around 30 names, a mixture of probables, possibles and one or two emerging prospects who may have caught Fabio Capello's eye. [LNB] Just Jack: Everton starlet Rodwell has been overlooked for the England squad, but Arsenal's own bright young thing, Jack Wilshere, has been called up[LNB]Rodwell could scarcely have done much more than condemn Manchester United to defeat with a stunning solo goal last February and eclipse even Aussie idol Tim Cahill as the main focus of attention during last month's pre-season tour Down Under. [LNB]Yet Everton eyes working their way down the list of hopefuls for England's Wembley date with Hungary stopped to register a familiar name only once. Phil Jagielka was their sole representative. No place for Rodwell, prompting the thought that Capello may have lost his way even more than originally feared. [LNB]Rodwell has an enviable track record for making his mark at an early age, after joining Goodison's youth system at seven, turning out for the Under 18s at 14, breaking into the Reserves a year later and becoming the youngest ever Evertonian in Europe when he faced AZ Alkmaar at 16 years 284 days in December 2007. [LNB]International: Rodwell has plenty of U21 experience[LNB]Capello, however, appears intent on keeping him waiting for his first senior England cap, for all his sterling service at Under 21 level. If the under-fire England coach genuinely believes Everton's 19-year-old midfielder is not yet ready to step up, he can start bracing himself for a few more dissenting voices. [LNB]Moyes' would be one, and Sir Alex Ferguson's, presumably, another, after he targeted Rodwell for a £15million summer move to Old Trafford midway through last season and saw the Southport-born teenager respond in devastating fashion. Surging forward from the halfway line, Rodwell shrugged aside a challenge from Jonny Evans and rifled an angled drive beyond Edwin Van der Sar to wrap up a 3-1 win over Manchester United. [LNB]It encapsulated everything Rodwell has to offer, strength, poise and an ability to strike the ball as cleanly as anyone, as well as an adaptability that could steer him towards central defence in due course. [LNB]Add an impressive passing range and level-headedness rare in a player of his age and talent, and it begins to explain why Everton were surprised but not unduly perturbed by his latest omission. [LNB] Fast-tracked: Wilshere (right) in training with England boss Fabio Capello[LNB]Though Wayne Rooney was lured away by Ferguson at a similar age, there was never the slightest doubt in Everton circles that Rodwell would resist United's overtures and commit his future to them, as he did by signing a new five-year £30,000-a-week contract in May. [LNB]Winning over Capello is next on the 'to-do' list, but it may require all his perseverance after another surprising snub by the England boss.  [LNB] Capello: Give my England flops hell!
