The side from the capital won a cagey affair in the dying seconds when Philippe Mexes swung over a cross from the right. Under pressure, the Brazilian chested the ball down and then executed a gymnastic bicycle kick to plant the ball in the far corner.
The victory moved Roma up to eighth in Serie A. They are still 13 points off leaders Inter but are closing in on the European places.
