Arsenal are in the market to replace Eduardo after the Croatia striker completed a £6million move to Shakhtar Donetsk, signing a four-year contract after passing a medical on Wednesday night.

He joined Arsenal in 2007 but just as he was showing signs that he was adjusting to the Premier League, he suffered a horrendous broken leg and dislocated ankle at Birmingham.

"Eduardo's recovery from his injury sustained at Birmingham City in February 2008 is a testament to his strength as a human being, and this character and determination will be missed by everyone at Arsenal," read a statement on Arsenal's official website, www.arsenal.com.

"Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Eduardo for his contribution towards the club and wish him the best of luck for the future."

The severity of the injury shocked Eduardo's team-mates and has since been blamed by some for the Gunners' inability to maintain their title challenge in the second half of the 2007-08 season.

The 27-year-old made his comeback in February 2009, almost exactly a year after the controversial challenge by Martin Taylor.

However, there were concerns that the psychological scars from the tackle have had a negative impact on his game,

In total, Eduardo made 67 appearances and scored 20 goals in all competitions upon his arrival from Dinamo Zagreb.
