Eboue vows to win over fans
14 Dec 2008 - 11:56:07
Arsenal's Emmanuel Eboue has revealed his shock at being barracked by his own fans but has vowed to win over the boo-boys.
Eboue, 25, was jeered by the Emirates Stadium crowd when he was substituted late on in last weekend's 1-0 win over Wigan Athletic, having only come on as a first-half replacement for the injured Samir Nasri.
Several team-mates and manager Arsene Wenger have rallied around the Ivory Coast international in the aftermath of the incident, but Eboue is hoping his performances will win over his detractors.
The defender was left on the bench as the inconsistent Gunners dropped two more points following a 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough on Saturday.
"It was sad. I did not expect that reaction from the public because I have always given my all for Arsenal," said Eboue.
"But I am a professional and I have to respect the reactions of the crowd.
"A lot of people have called me to give me their support. The manager has encouraged me in the last few days and told me that you get over these things by working harder and fighting even more in every game.
"He has promised me that if I give 200 per cent in every game the fans will applaud me again."
